Cultural Competency: Guard Against Implicit Bias in Patient Care
Live CME Activity – Wednesday, October 14, 2020 | 6 P.M. to 7 P.M.
Implicit biases contribute to healthcare disparities experienced by various patient populations. Concern about a widening gap of healthcare disparities raises questions about healthcare decisions for certain patients, or patient groups, and how these may contribute to less than optimal outcomes. Since negative patient outcomes have the potential to result in professional negligence allegations and liability, this webinar will discuss implicit biases, or the unconscious attitudes and stereotypes, and the negative impact these can have on healthcare. It will provide strategies to protect against implicit biases that can affect how one patient is treated over another.
This live educational activity will support your ability to:
- Identify healthcare disparities that exist in select patient populations for which you may provide care
- Assess your practice for potential medical professional liability risks and patient safety issues attributable to implicit bias
- Implement strategies to overcome implicit biases or blind spots that potentially impact patient outcomes and contribute to healthcare disparities
