Discussion on California’s COIVD-19 Vaccine Mandate and Workplace Issues

In this webinar, a follow-up to the Return to Work Issues for CA Physician Employers webinar, presenters will provide information on COVID-19 compliance obligations for California physician employers, COVID-19 testing/vaccination issues, and best practices in response to the recent vaccination orders for health care workers issued by the California Department of Public Health. This one-hour webinar will be structured as a question and answer discussion between Joey Cachuela, California Medical Association legal counsel, and the principal of Rivas Law, APC, Oscar Rivas.

Presenters
Joey Cachuela, CMA Legal Counsel

Cachuela is legal counsel for the California Medical Association where he focuses on CMA’s legal and legislative advocacy. Prior to joining CMA, he was a senior associate at a boutique law firm specializing in health care litigation. Cachuela also served for seven years as a Judge Advocate in the United States Air Force, as regional counsel to the Air Force's west coast medical centers, a federal prosecutor, and a deployed legal advisor to US Forces-Afghanistan.
Cachuela is a graduate of the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and UC Berkeley School of Law, where he served as submissions editor on the Asian American Law Journal at Berkeley Law and co-chair of the Asian Pacific American Law Student Association.

Oscar E. Rivas, Esq., Partner

Rivas is the principal of Rivas Law, APC, a law firm representing clients in claims arising under the state and federal employment laws.  With over twenty years of experience, Oscar has handled nearly all types of employment law claims in state and federal court.  As a regular part of his practice, Oscar has handles claims of discrimination, sexual harassment, investigations, leaves of absence for disability or pregnancy, proper classification of employees (exempt vs. nonexempt and independent contractors), wrongful termination and retaliation, whistleblower, unpaid wages and overtime, missed meal and rest breaks, as well as advising clients on ongoing disciplinary matters or compliance with state and federal laws.  Oscar’s experience also includes preparing legally compliant employment policies, drafting executive level employment contracts, drafting offer letters and reviewing and revising employee handbooks.  In addition, Oscar regularly handles administrative claims before the EEOC, DFEH, and DLSE (the Labor Commissioner).
